To Maya

This is a sample card. Every person, company and message in it is made up.

What the recipient gets

The recipient opens the link and taps the envelope. A camera glides over a large sheet of paper and shows the messages one by one. Short ones arrive a few at a time, and long ones appear as if they were being written letter by letter.

Signatures and doodles drawn with a finger play back at the speed they were drawn. At the end, every message gathers around the recipient’s name, with how many people wrote and, if you set it, the month you first met.

It fits a phone held upright and a TV in the meeting room alike. Tap the right side of the screen for the next message, and read every message again as a list when the show is over.

How it works

  1. 1

Make a card. Pick an occasion, such as a farewell, a retirement, a birthday, a graduation or a thank-you, and the question slips are filled in for you. Enter the recipient’s name to get a writing link. You can set a deadline too.

  2. 2

Post the writing link in Slack, Teams, email or a group text. Signers don’t need an account. They pick a question slip, write their message, choose a handwriting font, a pen and an ink color, then add their name and, if they like, sign with a finger.

  3. 3

Preview the messages in the editor, set the order and the stage, and press Finish. Send the viewing link you get to the recipient, or play it on the big screen at the party.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Making a card, gathering messages and the viewing link are free, with no limit on time. Only the keepsake, a PDF and a print-ready image of the card, costs money: US$6.99 (plus any sales tax, shown at checkout).

How many people can sign?

Up to 300 people per card, one message each. A message can be up to 400 characters, including spaces and line breaks.

Can the card be printed?

Yes, with the keepsake: an A3 poster of the final scene and A4 pages holding every message, in one PDF, plus the poster as a print-ready PNG.

Is it real handwriting?

Messages are typed, then drawn in one of 12 handwriting fonts that each signer picks. Signatures, short notes and doodles are drawn with a finger, and their strokes play back in the show.

Do signers need an account?

No. Only the person who makes the card signs in, with a Google account. Signers open the writing link on their phone and write. There’s no app to install.

Can the recipient see it before it’s ready?

No. The writing link can’t open the show. The viewing link is made when you finish the card, and nobody can watch until you send it.

Can other people find our card?

Only people who have a link can open it, and neither link shows up in search results. If a link spreads too far, make a new one in the editor and the old one stops working at once.

Can we collect money for a gift too?

No, the card doesn’t handle money. If you’re collecting for a gift, use a separate collection and mention the gift in the card.

Which characters can I use?

English letters, numbers and common punctuation, plus accented letters for names such as Zoë or José. Emoji aren’t supported.
