An online leaving card the whole office can sign
A digital leaving card the whole office signs from their phones, played as a show on their last day. With message ideas, and a word on the collection.
The leaving card usually travels round the office in a brown envelope with the collection, and somebody always misses it: they’re working from home that week, or on another floor, or they hear the news on the Friday afternoon. An online leaving card goes round as a link instead, so everyone signs from their own phone before the deadline.
On their last day, your colleague opens the link and taps the envelope. Every message plays as a show, in the handwriting font each person chose, with signatures and doodles drawn as they were drawn.
How to send one round
- 1
Make the card and pick the farewell occasion. Enter your colleague’s name and set a deadline the day before their last day.
- 2
Post the writing link in the team chat or email it round, leaving your colleague off. Nobody needs an account.
- 3
After the deadline, preview the card and press Finish. Send the viewing link on their last day, or put it on the screen at leaving drinks.
What to write in a leaving card
One memory and one wish is plenty. If you didn’t work closely together, mention something you noticed about them, or how the team feels about them going.
- The office won’t be the same without your terrible puns and your excellent biscuits. Best of luck in the new job!
- Thank you for showing me the ropes when I started. I still use your spreadsheet every single week. Good luck!
- You made Monday mornings bearable. Wishing you all the best for whatever comes next.
- We didn’t work together much, but everyone’s gutted you’re leaving, which says it all. Best of luck!
- Congratulations on the new role. They’ve no idea how lucky they are. Keep in touch!
- Thanks for always having time for a question, even the daft ones. You’ll be missed.
- Enjoy the new adventure, and don’t be a stranger. The kettle’s always on.
- Who’s going to remember everyone’s birthday now? Thank you for all of it. Good luck!
There are many more ideas in the farewell messages, written for American workplaces but easy to adapt.
Questions
Can we do the collection here too?
No. The card doesn’t handle money. Run the collection separately, through a collection pot site or a bank transfer to the organiser, and say what the gift is in the card.
How much does it cost?
The card and the viewing link are free. Only the keepsake, a PDF and print-ready image of the card, is paid: US$6.99. Any VAT for your location is shown at checkout.
How many people can sign?
Up to 300 people per card, which covers most offices and most leaving dos.
Will they see it before their last day?
No. The writing link can’t open the show, and the viewing link only exists once you finish the card.
Making a card and the viewing link are free. Only the person who makes the card signs in, with a Google account.
